Daniel Limmer

Daniel Limmer, BS, LP continues a career in EMS and Law enforcement that has spanned more than 40 years. He is a licensed paramedic in Texas and Maine and practices with the Bayou Vista FD in Texas. Dan is a passionate educator who speaks at EMS conferences around the world. He is a co-author of several textbooks including Emergency Care, EMR Complete, the education standards Transition Series for EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, and EMPACT. He is NMETC’s Director of Innovation and develops smart phone and web-based courses, continuing education, and review apps for the emergency service fields through his company, Limmer Education, LLC.

At the NMETC EMS Summit, Dan will be presenting "When the Grim Reaper Wins: An EMS Providers Guide to Death with Dignity."

While our primary mission is to save lives, not every patient is saved. From fatal trauma to terminal illness, EMS has a front row seat to death and dying with minimal preparation for the non-clinical elements of patient and family care. This presentation will cover the interpersonal components of EMS at death scenes including death notifications, communication with family, friends and the dying patient; interfacing with the police and hospice, and dealing with the emotions you may feel during and after the call. A compassionate interaction with those left behind by the death of a loved one may be one of the most meaningful things you will ever do in EMS.
