At the NMETC EMS Summit, Dr. Axene will be presenting "Occlusive Disease: The Silent Killer We Don’t Always Catch."

The often-overlooked aspect of diagnosing life-threatening cardiac events focuses on the critical role of pattern recognition beyond the typical ST elevation on an EKG. While ST elevation is a classic marker for acute myocardial infarction, occlusive coronary disease can present in many other forms that may not fit the textbook pattern. In my presentation, we’ll explore various subtle and atypical EKG findings that can signal significant occlusive disease and discuss how a failure to recognize these patterns can lead to missed diagnoses and delayed treatments. By expanding our diagnostic mindset and becoming more attuned to less obvious signs, we can reduce the risk of missing potentially fatal cardiac events, ensuring better outcomes for our patients. This presentation aims to arm clinicians with the knowledge and tools to identify these silent killers before it's too late.
